Tripoli, 16 April 2016:
Two guards are reported to have been killed and four kidnapped in an attack this evening . . .[restrict]on the Tripoli home of Presidency Council member Ahmed Maetig. He, however, is not believed to have been the target of the attack.
It is being claimed that the assault on the house in Hay Andalus was mounted by members of Haithem Tajouri’s Tripoli Revolutionaries’ Brigade and that their objective was the men guarding the house are said to have been Tuaregs. Four technicals were also reported to have been taken away by the raiders.
It is not known if any members of Maetig’s family were in the house at the time of the attack. Maetig himself remains with other members of the Presidency Council in the Bu Setta naval base. Shortly after this evening’s assault, armoured cars arrived and formed a protective cordon around the building.
This is not the first time that a property owned by Maetig has been attacked. In June 2014, when the Misratan businessman was briefly prime minister-designate, his Tobacts hotel on Tripoli’s Shara Omar Mukhtar was shot up. [/restrict]
