Benghazi, 27 April 2016:
An new Kentucky Fried Chicken that opened last month in Benghazi is a fake, the company . . .[restrict]that franchises the international brand-name has told the Libya Herald.
The outlet that bills itself as a KFC with all the appropriate signage and food packaging is in Dagadusta Street in the Foihat district.
“We can confirm the restaurant in Benghazi is not a legitimate KFC” said a spokesman for Yum Foods, which owns the KFC franchise in the Middle East and North Africa. “No franchise rights have been granted to any party in Libya”.
This is not the first time that a phoney KFC franchise has been set up in Libya. Two years ago a new “KFC” opened with much ballyhoo and billboard advertising in Tobruk.
Yum foods said at the time that it had no plans to licence any Libyan KFC outlets. [/restrict]
