Tripoli, 23 March 2016:
All three Libyan governments have condemned yesterday’s attacks on Brussels airport and metro carried out by . . .[restrict]so-called Islamic State (IS). In IS-controlled Sirte, however, the carnage has been applauded .
IS gunmen drove through the streets of the town in armoured vehicles yesterday afternoon waving their ubiquitous black flags and firing in the air, in celebration of the slaughter.
In contrast, both the Thinni interim government in Beida and the Ghwell one in Tripoli quickly issued their separate condemnations, while Presidency Council head Faiez Serraj is reported to have sent a letter of condolence to Belgium’s King Philippe.
In Tobruk, members of the House of Representatives also issued a statement condemning the attack, expressing solidarity with the people of Belgium and noting that Libyans too have been victims of IS violence and inhumanity. [/restrict]
