Tunis, 7 February 2016:
Libya’s Civil Affairs Authority announced yesterday that it has linked its computerized National ID Number . . .[restrict]System with local privately owned Aman bank.
This linkage is meant to help facilitate the issue of Aman bank debit cards and make it easier and more convenient for both the bank and its customers.
It will be recalled that the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), the ultimate financial oversight body in Libya, has decreed that all Libyan banks can only issue debit cards (and credit facilities) to customers who hold a valid National ID Number.
The linkage between the Civil Affairs Authority and Aman bank will enable almost instant checks by the bank on the validity of customers’ National ID Numbers.
The prerequisite use of the National ID Number decreed by the CBL and the Libyan Audit Bureau comes as part of efforts to fight financial corruption and especially the corrupt misuse of Libya’s fast depleting foreign currency reserves.
The use of Libyan dinar-based debit cards is a very pivotal facility for many overseas displaced Libyans or students. [/restrict]
