Benghazi, 12 February 2016:
Just four days after a Libyan air force MiG 23 crashed in Derna, another . . .[restrict]one crashed in Benghazi today. It came down in Hawari district, near the cement factory. The pilot, said to be the same one whose plane crashed in January, is reported to have ejected safely.
As in Derna, the Libyan air force claims that a technical problem was the cause while the militants it is fighting – in this cased the so-called Islamic State – claims that it shot the plane.
It cannot be established at present which side is telling the truth.
The part of Hawari where it crashed is bandit territory, where IS can move freely. [/restrict]
