Tripoli. 26 January 2016:
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani on a visit to Italy has said that without a government, . . .[restrict]Libya will remain in the hands of human traffickers.
As if to drive home his point, smugglers took advantage of calmer seas and better weather in the last 48 hours to launch of yet more migrants from Libyan beaches, including Zuwara.
The Italian coastguard said today that in several operations their vessels had plucked 1,271 asylum seekers from rubber rafts and wooden boats off the Libyan coast .
Rouhani told Italian president Sergio Mattarella yesterday that all parties had to agree on a representative government before the international community could engage with Libya. Both men accepted that once that had happened the new government should ask for assistance. [/restrict]
