Tripoli, 17 January 2016:
General Khalifa Hafter has met 13 mayors who back the Political Accord and insist that the . . .[restrict]military has to be kept apart from politics
The civic leaders, all from the east of the country, travelled to Hafter’s Marj headquarters. Afterwards they put out a statement warning that there was an uncrossable red line which must separate the armed forces from politics. They said they therefore endorsed the provision to this effect in the Political Accord.
The mayors said however that the Accord and the Presidential Council had first to be voted on by the House of Representatives.
They also warned that the Government of National Accord had to operate inside, not outside Libya. At present, prime minister-designate Faiez Serraj is forming his administration in the five-star surroundings of the Residence Hotel in Tunis. [/restrict]
