The recent break in the weather has encouraged a fresh wave of migrant boat launched . . .[restrict]from the Libyan coast.
The Italian coastguard has reported picking up more than 4,500 migrants in the last four days in a range of craft. However, the Rome operations centre has noted that increasingly, the people smugglers are sending asylum seekers to sea in rubber dinghies. Seven of these, carrying around 800 people were found by coastguard cutters on Saturday and their passenger embarked for travel to Sicily. [/restrict]
