Tripoli, 29 November 2015:
In a brave stab at normality in . . .[restrict]a town wracked with death and fighting, Derna is planning a three-day kids’ festival starting next Saturday under the banner “Because They Hope”.
Civil society groups and sport clubs have banded together to stage the event in the town’s sports stadium.
Advertising the festival on Facebook, the organisers say they want it to take children out of the climate of violence and give them back the idea of study and discipline. This is seen as all the more necessary because schools in the town have been shut down by the fighting.
From nine in the morning until noon each day, it is planned to give kids between the ages of six and ten education mixed with fun, including sports and cultural events. [/restrict]
