Medavia Aviation has suspended flights between Mitiga and . . .[restrict]Malta until Monday 16 November on instructions from the Maltese authorities while the island hosts a two-day EU migration summit.
Medavia operations room tonight confirmed to the Libya Herald the Maltese authorities had told the airline to stop its daily round-trip service. The last flight was yesterday and the service will not resume until a week tomorrow.
“Unfortunately” said the Medavia official “ for safety and security issues we have been instructed to stop by higher authorities”.
As of next Wednesday EU leaders will spend 48 hours discussing migration. Besides the 28 EU members states were will be 62 other delegations. These include countries from which migrants as coming, as well as those in the migration front line. However, it is not yet clear if Libya is sending anyone. The EU has announced that the Libyan place was “on hold”.
Decision to suspend Medavia’s Libyan flights was up to Malta an EU official said this evening and had not come from Brussels. [/restrict]
