Tripoli, 25 November
A Libyan supertanker tanker marooned in Greece for two years thanks to an Athens court battle . . .[restrict]is now back safely in Tripoli.
Last week the Greek Supreme Court rejected an attempt to hold the tanker, the Al-Hani for another week. The vessel, which is the fifth largest in fleet of the state-owned General National Maritime Transport Company, capable of carrying 800,000 barrels of crude, was held after a Greek lawyer claimed the GNMTC owed him €6.5 million. The issue was disputed and the case has dragged on through Greece’s commercial courts for over two years.
It is unclear what sort of a settlement, if any, was finally reached or whether the judges in fact threw out the claim altogether. [/restrict]
