Tripoli, 8 October 2015:
The main road running running through the western Tripoli suburb of Ghut Shall reopened last night . . .[restrict]after one of the leaders of a local armed group was released by the Rada (‘deterrance’) forces.
Jibril Abeyi was arrested on Monday following clashes between his group, named as the Obeiyat “militia” and another active in the area, known as the Abdulsalam Shahub Al-Kikli “militia” – a group, as the name suggests, of young men from Kikla and who are reported to have close links to Abdul Ghani Kikli, also known as Ghnaiwa, the military boss of Abu Sleem.
The fighting is said to have been triggered by Abyei’s attempt to seize a member of the other militia.
Following Abeyi’s arrest, his brother and colleagues blocked the main road with burning tyres. [/restrict]
