Benghazi, 19 October 2015:
Four children died today and four others were seriously injured when a mortar shell exploded . . .[restrict]where they were all playing in Benghazi’s Leithi district.
The children, all boy,s were rushed to Jalaa Hospital when four of them were pronounced dead. A hospital spokesman said the others were being treated for a range of injuries, some of them serious.
It is not thought that the victims were near any army position. These latest civilian deaths are however characteristic of the recent battles, which have largely involved mortar and artillery exchanges from either side with air strikes from the air force.
The most vigorous recent action was Friday’s assault by IS on a position held by the 204 Tank Brigade. An attack from three directions on the unit in the Al-Rhaba district in the west of the city made some initial progress but, according a source close to the army, was eventually pushed back. The army is claiming that one terrorist commander was killed and admitting to the loss of one of its own soldiers. [/restrict]
