Tripoli, 20 October 2015:
In an effort to speed the evacuation of battlefield casualties, the government has stationed a . . .[restrict]helicopter ambulance at newly re-opened Qirnada hospital outside Beida.
The air ambulance flew in today to an official welcome. Dr Sami Aghi, from the Health Ministry, who oversees the treatment of war wounded, said the helicopter would allow medics to reach casualty sites far more quickly.
It is expected that the chopper will cover an area including Ajdabiya, Benghazi and Marj. The wounded would either be taken directly to Qirnada hospital or flown to Labraq Airport for treatment abroad.
The hospital is on an old military base which also has a prison. Last week it received its first casualties, injured Tebu and Zwai, from clashes in Kufra. These patients were brought in by road. [/restrict]
