Benghazi, 19 October 2015:
In the latest in a spate of murders in Ajdabiya, the head of military intelligence was . . .[restrict]shot dead outside his house last night in a killing which IS says it carried out.
Colonel Ataya Al-Arabi was hit by a hail of fire from automated weapons as he arrived at his house, apparently without any close protection. The attackers escaped. He was rushed to hospital where initially his condition was said to be stable, but this morning it was announced that he had died of his wounds.
An IS group put out a statement this afternoon reading: “”One of the security squads in Ajdabiya targeted the apostate colonel Ataya Al-Arabi, the head of intelligence in Ajdabiya, with machine guns, in front of his home, that led to his death. Praise to God”
On Saturday IS claimed responsibility for a car bombing outside a mosque in the town which seriously injured a Salafist preacher and killed his nephew.
