Tripoli, 12 September 2015:
A new police station reopened today in Derna, the second in a month to become operational. . . .[restrict]When the town was under the control of warring armed groups and finally IS, all the civilian police premises were damaged or destroyed. This included a police barracks on the edge of town which was occupied by members of Ansar Al-Sharia.
During the six months that Derna was under IS control, the only norminal source of law and order was exercised by IS gangs. The police building from which they operated was damaged in a blaze when local Mujahideen drove IS out of the town in June.
This police station was cleaned up and restored by local boy scouts and became operational again last month.
