Tunis, 27 August 2015:
There was no GNC delegation when the latest round of UNSMIL-brokered talks got under way . . .[restrict]today in the Moroccan resort of Skhirat.
An UNSMIL statement said it has been told by the GNC that its team would not be attending the present round of the dialogue. The GNC explained that it needed to reorganise its delegation after the resignation of two members.
The statement however continued “ The GNC assured UNSMIL that it remains committed to the dialogue process and will participate in the next session. UNSMIL will continue its contacts with the GNC to ensure its effective participation in the process”.
UNSMIL chief opened today’s discussion with yet another warning that time was running out to avert economic collapse and the expansion of IS terrorists. Only the speedy completion of the Libyan Political Agreement and the creation of a Government of National Accord could head off these dangers.
