Tripoli, 22 June 2015:
Janzour municipal council has said that reports about it reaching a peace agreement with Zintan are . . .[restrict]untrue.
In a statement today following a meeting with local civil society organisations and elders, it said that there had been no such deal. However, it was in communication with people in the Wirshefana district to try and resolve issues between them and it.
It was announced yesterday from Zintan that there had been a deal. The head of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Operations Room in the town, Colonel Idris Madi, was reported saying that it would enable his forces to enter the west Tripoli suburb.
However, locals in Zintan told the Libya Herald at the time they had heard nothing about it.
There have been a number of separate peace accords between towns west of Tripoli in the past few weeks. Janzour, however, is seen as being firmly controlled by revolutionaries, notably the Fursan Janzour Brigade, part of the Libya Dawn alliance and now also allied to the new hardline Samoud (Steadfastness) Front set up last week.
The suburb, originally part of the Wirshefana area, contained a large Wirshefani population before the takeover of Tripoli by Libya Dawn last year. Many, however, then left. [/restrict]
