Tripoli, 22 June 2015:
Two young children were dug alive from the rubble of a building that collapsed today in . . .[restrict]Tripoli. Though shocked and frightened, neither the boy nor girl sustained any serious injury.
Locals used their bare hands to free the children who had been playing outside the building in a side road off 24th December Street. The building had been abandoned and was unoccupied.
Many older structures in the city have been poorly maintained. Following the May 2013 collapse of a 1920’s apartment block in Shara Derna off Shara Omar Muktar in which five people, including a pregnant woman died, the Tripoli Municipality vowed to tackle the problem. Yet the following December, three Egyptians living in a condemned building on Shara Omar Muktar perished when the roof fell in.
