Ghat, 7 June 2015:
An armed gang got away with over a million dinars-worth of gold in Sebha today, according to . . .[restrict]local police.
Police spokesman Hussein Haddad said that the robbers had seized the owner of a jewellery shop in the town’s Mahdiya district outside his home and tortured him into handing over the gold. The man had been unable to identify anyone in the gang because they had had their faces masked, he said. He added that the value of the gold stolen was put at around LD 1.1 million.
Meanwhile, staff at Sebha’s medical centre were again subjected to danger and violence when a man forced his way into the ophthalmology department and started firing randomly. One man was slightly injured but was treated at the centre. The gunman, said to be mentally unstable by the police, then tried to seize a member of staff’s car but was overpowers by hospital security and arrested. [/restrict]
