Tripoli, 3 March 2015:
The Libya Herald has been . . .[restrict]awarded a grant by the Libyan Content Development Fund (LCDF), financed largely by the European Union, to help it continue it work as one of the few independent news sources in the country.
The fund is administered by the Institute for War and Peace Reporting. We take the award as a recognition of the three years during which our dedicated team of reporters has sought to chronicle Libya’s increasingly complex and painful story.
Getting to the facts and confirming them with reliable sources is a challenge for all journalists in Libya. That challenge is all the greater at present, given the rising threats, harassment and sometime murderous violence toward reporters.
The Libya Herald site went live on 17 February 2012. Since then we have published some 13,000 stories and attracted up to 2.5 million hits a day.
The principle source of Libyan news, we are the most widely-read and quoted throughout the world.
We identify strongly with our colleagues in other Libyan media who also believe that independent and unbiased reporting has a major role in promoting peace and understanding.
The Libya Herald is all about helping to lay the foundations for a fair and independent Libyan media. We look forward to expanding this mission, thanks in no small measure, to the support from the LCDF, IWPR and the European Union. We are very grateful. [/restrict]
