Beida, 15 March 2015:
Fighting intensified this evening between militiamen of the Central Shield’s Third Force and government forces in . . .[restrict]the area around Brak Al-Shatti, whose airbase is a strong point for the Misrata-led force.
The violence flared up after the failure of mediation efforts by local elders mainly from the Awlad Suleiman. There were unconfirmed reports that the Misratans were proposing that they evacuate the airbase within a month.
A week ago, there was a large demonstration in Sebha, the the south of the airbase, by members of the Magarha tribe, who along with the Awlad Hudair, dominate the nearby Al-Jadeed district.
The government forces, which are led by Colonel Mohammed Ben Nayel are largely made up of regular army troops from Magarha, Qaddadfa and Tebu cmmunities.
Meanwhile last night, four prisoners escaped after a gunman opened up on Al-Jadeed police station, injuring a member of the security forces.
A local resident, Mohammed Al-Hadeeri told the Libya Herald that it appeared that the attack was designed to help the detainees get away. Two weeks ago, the authorities set up a Sebha Security Room todeal with the rising number of robberies. [/restrict]
