Benghazi, 1 February 2015:
In a surprise development, it is reported that the Libyan government is to hold its cabinet . . .[restrict]meeting today in Benghazi rather than Beida where is has been based in recent months. It would be the first time since the revolution that the government has met in the city.
It is not known where it will meet. However, reports state that the head of the Libya National Army in Benghazi, Colonel Faraj Barasi, has promised that his forces will ensure the ministers’ security.
Nor it is known if this is a one-off event or whether the government will now be based for the time being in Libya’s second city. Security in Benghazi remains an issue in certain central and southern districts, although today the city was quiet.
There are no further details at present. [/restrict]
