Malta, 21 January 2015:
The Libyan government approved LD 2 million to the Interior Ministry yesterday for border controls and control of illegal immigration at airports and land border crossings.
The decision came at the Libyan government’s cabinet meeting, the only internationally recognized government in Libya of Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni, held yesterday in the eastern city of Al-Beida.
The Ministry of Interior had actually requested LD 8 million to improve illegal immigration control and security at border crossings and airports in both eastern and southern Libya. However, only LD 2 were granted with the condition that the balance would be paid to the Interior Ministry when funds were available.
The relevant airports covered by the allocation in the south were Sebha, Obari, Ghat and Brak airports. The southern border crossings were the Libya-Chad-Niger border at Althoum, Ayseen broder crossing with Algeria and the Egyptian-Sudanese border crossing at Al-Sara.
In the eastern region the allocation covered Labrak, Benina and Tobruk airports and the Libyan-Egyptian land border crossing at Emsaad.
