A new Canadian ambassador to Libya has been appointed. David Sproule will lead the mission . . .[restrict]from its temporary home in Tunis. Most recently ambassador to Norway, Sproule has also been ambassador in Thailand and Afghanistan and High Commissioner (ambassador) in Bangladesh.
With a strong legal background, Sproule joined the Canadian foreign service in 1981. His first posting was as third secretary in Singapore. He then served as first secretary in Bangkok and then Washington.
When back in Ottawa his roles have included Human Rights and Oceans and the Environment.
He replaces Colin Townson, who has headed the Canadian mission since ambassador Michael Grant left last year. [/restrict]
