Benghazi, 14 December 2014:
More details are emerging about the attack on Ras Jedir border crossing with Tunisia that saw the . . .[restrict]Libyan National Army (LNA) apparently take control of the strategic post.
Members of the LNA surrounded the border in the early hours of this morning before staging a dawn attack, the LNA Chief of Staff Ahmed Mismari told the Libya Herald. The forces encountered little resistance, with some of the Libya Dawn personnel surrendering and others fleeing to the nearby town to Zuwara, he said.
The border crossing was now closed and would remain so until the security situation had improved, Mismari said.
He claimed that Libya Dawn had not been securing or protecting the border but, rather, had been using it for their own purposes, in particular to bring Tunisian fighters into Libya. LNA Brigadier Saqr Adam Geroushi also accused Libya Dawn of using Ras Jedir for weapons smuggling.
Tunisia had boosted its border security and deployed some 5,000 soldiers along the frontier to protect it and prevent terrorist elements from entering from Libya, Misrmari said. [/restrict]
