Benghazi, 12 November 2014:
Five soldiers have been killed and 21 civilians have been confirmed injured in Tobruk and Beida following suicide bomb attacks.
Faris Labadi, a spokesman for the House of Representatives, told the Libya Herald that a total of 21 individuals, men and women, had been injured in the attack in Tobruk. He said the bombing took place at a crowded junction as cars were queuing at traffic lights.
Labadi said five soldiers had been killed at the south entrance of Labraq’s airbase after a suicide bomber detonated another car bomb. He was driving a Jeep.
He said another bomb had been found in Tobruk, near the town’s west entrance. A BMW had been loaded with shells and a small explosive charge. Bomb disposal experts successfully defused the device.
Another official in Tobruk, who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to brief the press, told this newspaper that security officials had disabled Tobruk’s mobile telecommunications while the bomb was being defused. It was feared the car bomb might have been detonated remotely using a mobile phone.
