Tripoli, 18 November 2014:
Much of Sirte was plunged into darkness after thieves stole power cables, in the latest such raid . . .[restrict]to hit the town.
A source at the Gulf Power Station in Sirte told the Libya Herald that some 200 metres of copper cabling had been removed in this attack.
“This is the sixteenth incident of vandalism so far this year” he said.
The resulting power cuts lasted for several hours on Sunday before engineers were able to replace the missing cables. The stolen metal is almost certainly being sold as scrap. Copper is currently fetching around $6.5 a kilo.
