15 October 2014:

There were clashes in Zawia today resulting in the main coastal highway west of Tripoli being . . .[restrict]blocked. It happened after the powerful Abu Obeida Al-Zawi brigade arrested the leader of another local militia together with six members of his family, accusing them of supporting Operation Dignity in Benghazi and the Beida-based government of Abdullah Thinni.

Following the seizure of Alborawi Hleila and his close family, other family members and supporters closed the main road.  There were then clashes with medium and heavy weapons when the Abu Obeida brigade tried reopen it.

Zawia is said to be split in its loyalties, with some supporting the HoR and others Libya Dawn.  At the moment, however, the Abu Obeida brigade and its allies are the dominant force in the town. [/restrict]
