Tripoli, 8 August 2014:
A delegation from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) will travel to Tripoli in . . .[restrict]an attempt to help broker a ceasefire. It also plans to assess the humanitarian needs in the capital.
The delegation will be led by Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and will include UNSMIL Director of Political Affairs, Muin Shreim.
Ahmed is also Deputy Head of UNSMIL and heads the United Nations Development Programmed (UNDP) in Libya.
The delegation will assess the needs of civilian residents who have been displaced and also those hit by food shortages and the disruption of basic services.
Italy is providing logistical support for the UNSMIL delegation, which is also working closely with others in the international community to encourage and facilitate a long-term ceasefire. [/restrict]
