Tripoli, 30 August 2014:
There was a series of demonstrations of varying sizes in Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata and at least five . . .[restrict]other cities in support of and against the House of Representatives (HoR) and all the policies it stands for.
The anti-HoR demonstrations were as usual the better organized, with demonstrators allegedly bussed into Tripoli’s Martyrs Square from outside cities.
The anti-HoR demonstrators called for the HoR to meet in Tripoli for a constitutional handover of power by the GNC. They supported the Libya Dawn military campaign in Tripoli whilst condemning the Dignity military operation led by retired General Khalifa Hafter in eastern Libya.
The demonstrations also condemned intervention in Libyan affairs by foreign countries including the air strikes on Libya Dawn forces allegedly by the UAE and Egypt.
In Misrata, the anti-HoR demonstrations also called for the release of Libyan businessmen arrested by UAE authorities and supported the GNC appointed government of Omar Al-Hassi.
The pro-HoR demonstrations in Benghazi and Ajdabiya recognised the democratically-elected HoR as the only legitimate and constitutional body in Libya and accepting its sessions in Tobruk as legitimate . [/restrict]
