Tripoli, 17 July 2014:
Misrata Municipal Council and local leaders have denounced Zintani militias at Tripoli International Airport . . .[restrict]as remnants of the former regime as clashes continue in the capital for the fifth straight day.
Reports have already emerged of high casualties amongst Zintanis at the airport with plumes of black smoke apparently be seen rising from the premises.
In a statement issued by Misrata’s civic leaders, Misrata Council said the Qaaqaa and Sawaq Zintani brigades were “working against the revolution” adding that Misrata would help all Libyans in their efforts to safeguard the victories of 17 February.
It said Misrata would not accept the arrival of any foreign or regional intervention in Libya, a possibility raised by the interim government in the early hours of Tuesday morning as fighting in Tripoli intensified.
Misratan military commanders confirmed this morning the arrival of further reinforcements to their armed brigades in the capital as senior government officials have voiced concern over a possible escalation.
