Benghazi, 14 June 2014:

Another member of Saiqa forces was killed in Benghazi last night. Fifty-year-old Fawzi Ahmed Mohamed was . . .[restrict]shot in the head while in the city’s Shebna district, next to Buatni.

An army instructor, he died instantly according to Fadia Berghathi, the spokesperson at Jalaa Hospital to which his body was taken.

Earlier in the day, another man was gunned down in Hay Salam district as he got into his car after Friday prayers. Sheikh Mohamed Abdulkarim Gadary, 41, was pronounced dead on arrival at the same hospital. However, those who accompanied his body there apparently did not want to disclose anything about him.

Early this morning, around 3 am, there was a series of explosions which could be heard all over the city.

According to Mohamed Hijazi, the spokesman for Operation Dignity, they were connected to an assault on a compound in Garyounis district that formerly was used by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation and is now being held by militant Islamists.

Dignity forces had also been involved attacking militants at a checkpoint in Gwarsha district, Hijazi said.

He claimed the Islamists were acting without coordination and were simply shooting Grad missiles and RPGs at random and then “fleeing like rats” back to their bases.

“If they shoot a missile, we will shoot 1,000 missiles back, and if they kill one officer we will kill 100 of them,” he declared defiantly. [/restrict]
