Tripoli, 28 October 2015:
Nine members of Justice and Construction Party (J&C) in the General National Congress (GNC) resigned from . . .[restrict]the party today over its stance on the Zawia helicopter crash.
In a resignation letter, the nine, all co-founders of the party, expressed anger at a statement by the party which, they claimed, put responsibility for the crash on Congress and the regime in Tripoli because of their stand on the country’s crisis.
The members said the party should have looked instead at those who carried out the terrorist crime, noting that Libyan National Army (LNA) spokesman Mohamed Hijazi had supposedly claimed LNA responsibility for targeting the helicopter. They said they had lost confidence in the party’s leadership.
The nine Congress members are:
- Abdulsalam Al-Sifrani (head of the party in the Congress)
- Mahmud Abdul Aziz
- Mansur Al-Hasadi
- Mohamed Morghem
- Omar Abu Shah
- Emhemed DiabAmna Emtir
- Amina Al-Mahjub
- Faraj Sasi
Unlike Congress, J&C leader Mohamed Sawan has consistently backed the UN-brokered Libya Dialogue. [/restrict]
