Hyundai Engineering has been awarded the contract to construct the Youth Library in Tripoli. . . .[restrict] The Council of Ministers, at its meeting last week, gave the Organisation for Development of Administrative Centres (ODAC) permission to award the LF 150 million contract to the South Korean company.
The state-of-the-art 17 February Youth Library is to be built in the capital’s Al-Hani district next to memorial commemorating the 1911 battle there. The site willoccupy an area of 10,000 square metres. Hyundai Engineering plans to complete the project within two years.
Plans for the three-story ultramodern library include an auditorium, classroom spaces, audio-visual, technical and digital resources, several reading rooms, a coffee shop, a children’s playground and a small mosque for prayers.
Sung-jae Lee, General Manager of the Hyundai Engineering’s Libya office, told the Libya Herald that his company had presented plans for the project three years ago. He stated that though the library is specifically for children and young people up to age 18, adults would be welcome to enjoy the facilities.
He also expressed Hyundai Engineering’s interest in building libraries elsewhere in Libya, as well as a larger and more extensive National Library in Tripoli. [/restrict]
