Tripoli, 11 May 2014:
Disruption to the telecommunications network in a number of Jebel Nafusa towns was the result of . . .[restrict]vandalism at a Hatif Libya (“Libya Telecom”) station in Ben Yaqoub near Gharian yesterday evening, according to company official.
“Vandalism at the Ben Yaqoub station cut Hatif Libya services in the area,” Hatif Libya director Husain Al-Tuwaileb told the Libya Herald.
However, according to the company’s telecommunication director in the Jebel Nafusa, Nouri Al-Maki, there was no vandalism. It was a case of local security guards switching off the service.
“No vandalism occurred to the station as no cables were cut. Some young people from the area where the station is located turned off the switches in the station,” he was quoted by Libyan news agency LANA as saying.
According to Al-Maki, the youths were demanding “compensation” for protecting the station for so long.
He added that the company had been informed about the situation and that help had been requested to resolve it. [/restrict]
