Tripoli, 28 May 2014:
A former police officer was gunned down by unknown assailants near in Rafie Al-Ansari Street . . .[restrict]in Derna yesterday evening, just hours after the severed head of student Abdul Moaz Abdul Razk Turkawi was found wrapped in a plastic bag in a local mosque.
Local bystanders rushed the severely wounded officer, named as Essam Mohammed Farhat Bu Shaiha, to hospital, but he died at 1 am this morning.
According to local residents, the officer was believed to have worked for the former regime’s internal security branch and had already survived two other assassination attempts.
Terrorist attacks in Derna show no signs of diminishing or reducing in brutality, as the decapitating of Turkawi shows.
“We are in extreme danger, and it seems that security is not going to be restored as easily as we would hope. The government should intervene and stop the slaughter immediately. We have had enough,” an officer who did not want to disclose his name for security reasons told the Libya Herald. [/restrict]
