Tripoli, 17 May 2014:
Benghazi’s Benina Airport is to remain closed for a further 48 hours, the airport’s management has announced.
The continued . . .[restrict]closure is a precautionary measure against the volatile security situation in the city, where fighting broke out yesterday morning, according to Libyan news agency LANA. Management said that some of yesterday’s clashes took place near areas of civil airspace used for take-off and landing.
The fighting, part of an offensive led by General Khalifa Hafter against the 17 February Brigade, Libya Shield Number 1 and Ansar Al-Sharia, started yesterday morning and has reportedly restarted this evening. [/restrict]
