Benghazi, 4 March 2014:
A Syrian man who had lived in Libya and had Libyan nationality . . .[restrict]was robbed and murdered last night in Belaoun in Benghazi’s Fuwayhat district.
According to Benghazi Joint Security Room, Ahmed Hassan Salama was driving home when he was stopped by a gang who were aware that he was carrying a large sum of money with him – LD 17,000. They shot him eight times including in the head, killing him instantly. They then grabbed LD 12,000 and sped off, but in their hurry left the other LD 5,000 behind.
Also yesterday, gunmen tried to kill a member of the air force, Nasser Al-Kuwafi. The 48-year-old was coming out of a metal workshop in Sabri district when he was shot several times, including in the neck. He is reported to be in critical condition.
In a separate incident today, a young man tried to kill an imam after Friday prayers. Sheikh Mohamed Fituri, the imam at the Al-Salam mosque in Hay Al-Salam district, has taken a strong line against drugs and alcohol and preached today on the issue in today’s Friday sermon. As he came out of the mosque, the man lunged at him with a knife but was stopped and seized by others. The man is believed to have been intoxicated. [/restrict]
