Misrata, 4 April 2014:
To boost local knowledge and skills, the Misrata Bar Association has hosted a workshop, in collaboration . . .[restrict]with The American Bar Association (ABA), on elections and local administration.
The workshop aimed to provide training on how to manage the electoral process, as well as raising awareness of the importance of elections. It also discussed international election standards, along with the legal framework and electoral system for local administration, including different methods of voter registration.
There was a focus on aspects of democratic transition and the clear distinction between local administration and local governance.
The event was attended by senior members of the Misrata municipal elections sub-committee, as well as a number of city lawyers and members of civil society institutions.
The American Bar Association has been working in Libya since January 2012. It has run a number of workshops across the country, with a particular focus on the Rule of Law. Most recently it has been working on raising awareness of electoral processes. [/restrict]
