The government has set aside LD 98 million to kick-start the work of the new municipal . . .[restrict]councils.
Prime Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Lamin told the Libya Herald the decision reflected the cabinet’s commitment to local governance. The funds were intended to encourage the work of what will be 59 new municipal councils, he added.
Elections were held for 16 municipal councils this week, including in Benghazi, with elections set to take place for the remaining councils over the next fortnight. [/restrict]
