A low turn-out at yesterday’s General National . . .[restrict]Congress (GNC) session meant it could neither discuss the 2014 budget nor voting for a new Prime Minister because there were not enough members to meet the required quorum of 120.
However, the members who did attend managed to approve a proposal to increase salaries of members of the judiciary. The proposal had apparently been submitted by the government some time ago.
“I think it is very important to give more support to the people working in judicial institutions,” GNC member Ahmed Langhi told the Libya Herald. “The nature of their job makes them subject to temptation from bribes or corruption, so it is important to give them good salaries which will help build the strong institutions that we are working for.”
He added that the 2014 budget would definitely be discussed at Tuesday’s session. [/restrict]
