Tripoli, 4 April 2014:
There are reports of armed protesters outside the official Prime Minister’s Office on Tripoli’s Al-Sekka Road.
“There are around . . .[restrict]40 people outside but more are coming all the time,” a local resident told the Libya Herald. He said the men appeared to be mainly in their twenties, and wore civilian clothing. Many were armed, he said, and there was some firing into the air.
“Most of them are wearing masks and those that aren’t are covering their faces with their T-shirts,” the local resident said. “They are now trying to block the road with tyres and have started a fire.”
He said it was unclear what the men wanted. “I tried to talk to them but no-one seems to know what is going on,” he said.
There are unconfirmed reports that former military commander Haithem Tajouri is also there.
There has been a marked increase in checkpoints and security presence in Tripoli today. [/restrict]
