Tripoli, 19 March 2014:
Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, yesterday reiterated the UN’s support for Libya’s political process in a . . .[restrict]telephone call to the Head of the General National Congress (GNC) Nuri Abu Sahmain.
Ban Ki-moon spoke about the need to ensure the implementation of the roadmap for Libya’s transition and what he said was Abu Sahmain’s important leadership role in this.
The two discussed the need for Libya’s authorities and the UN to work closely together and Ban Ki-moon emphasised the role the UN Special Mission to Libya (UNSMIL), led by Special Representative Tarik Mitri, could play in this.
Last week, the UN Security Council voted to extend its support mission in Libya for another year. [/restrict]
