Tripoli, 21 March 2014:
Tripoli International Airport reopened this afternoon after closing in the morning . . .[restrict]as a result missiles being shot at the runway and the apron area by an unknown group.
However, many flights, including those of Air Malta, Tunis Air, Alitalia and Lufthansa, had already been cancelled because it was not clear earlier when the airport would reopen. Some, such as the Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul, were diverted to Mitiga airbase.
Other flights today are being cancelled, according to an airport authority official, because passengers have not turned up. The lack for staff who left this morning is also delaying flights, he said.
It was hoped normal service would resume tomorrow, he added. [/restrict]
