Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, emphasised the need to complete the Airport Road works in full in conjunction with the imminent opening of Tripoli International Airport.
This came during a meeting held at the Cabinet Office today to follow up on the project to improve and develop the Airport Road, in the presence of the Minister of Transportation, the head of the Transport Projects Implementation Authority, and the head of the Executive Team for the Prime Minister’s Initiatives.
During the meeting, Aldabaiba stressed the importance of the readiness of this vital axis, which represents the southern façade of the capital, and is directly related to the movement of visitors and passengers.
The project includes the development of the road extending from the airport to Bab Al Salam Island, with a length of 23 kilometres, and a width of 19 meters, distributed over five lanes in each direction. It also includes the construction of a service road parallel to the main road, which facilitates the movement of service vehicles and enhances the efficiency of movement along the route.
The works also include the maintenance of damaged parts, the treatment of cracks, the repainting of lanes, the installation of modern traffic signals, the implementation of an advanced lighting network along the road, the improvement of sidewalks and afforestation, and the development of the main entrance to the airport.
It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers had approved the project earlier, as part of a comprehensive plan to improve the entrances to the capital and raise the efficiency of infrastructure, especially in areas related to the operation of Tripoli International Airport.
