Benghazi, 16 March 2014:
Another Air Force pilot is in a critical condition this morning after an . . .[restrict]explosive device placed under his car was detonated.
Early reports from sources at Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC), where the man was taken, indicated that the man had died from injuries sustained in the blast. However, BMC sources have since told the Libya Herald that the man is holding on, although he is in a critical condition.
The explosion occurred near the children’s section of the BMC, in the Fuwaihat district of the city.
Members of the Air Force have been increasingly targeted in a series of assassinations that have been carried out on security personnel in Benghazi for over a year. Wing commander Wanis Masoud Barghathi was shot dead in Benghazi at the end of February, following the assassination of Air Force officer Waleed Ali Al-Manifi earlier that month.
The Air Force is close to the Saiqa Special Forces, members of which have frequently been targeted in these attacks. [/restrict]
