The 28th Libyans Chess Championship got underway . . .[restrict]near Khoms on 21 February. The annual event of the height of the chess season for Libya’s substantial band of players.
There are 12 contestants this year, eleven from Tripoli and one from Derna. They are competing in 11 rounds. The event, which ends on 1 March, is being held at the Nageza country hotel, west of Khoms.
There are a number of chess cafes in Tripoli, notably on the Corniche, where devoted players can be seen playing late into the evening most days. [/restrict]
