Benghazi, 18 December 2013:
A severed head, said to be that of the father of a senior Saiqa Brigade . . .[restrict]officer, was found in Benghazi yesterday. Haji Attiya Al-Naaili, aged 65, the father of Salem Al-Naaili, was kidnapped some weeks ago.
The gruesome discovery was made near the son’s house in the city’s Salem district. The whereabouts of the rest of the body is unknown. According to a Saiqa source, the head was taken to Jalaa Hospital but then had to be transferred to Benghazi Medical Centre because of maintenance work at the mortuary.
It is reported that some days ago the kidnappers phoned Salem, better known as Salem Afaret, offering to release his father if he would hand himself over to them. He is alleged to have responded that he did not believe them and that if he did so, they would probably kill the both of them.
It is claimed the action was in response to a threat supposedly made by Salem in a video in which reportedly said that if anyone did any harm to Benghazi he would personally behead them.
