Tripoli, 24 December 2013:
US President Barack Obama has sent GNC President Nuri Abu Sahmain Independence Day congratulations. His message . . .[restrict]reads:
“Please accept my warmest wishes to you and the Libyan people as you celebrate Libya’s 62nd year of independence on December 24.
I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to a strong partnership with the new Libya. The United States remains inspired by the courage and determination displayed by the Libyan people as you rebuild your country after 42 years of dictatorship. I share your vision of a Libya that is free, prosperous, secure, and democratic, and I pledge my government’s continued support for Libya’s transition.
The United States and Libya share many interests in common, including regional stability, peace and security for the Libyan people, and establishment of security and justice institutions that can hold the perpetrators of crimes against Libyans and Americans accountable. We will continue to work in partnership with you and your government to further these shared interests.
Sincerely,
BARACK OBAMA [/restrict]
